Read More	Obituary From “The Ottumwa Courier,” Monday, February 7, 2000: Fred Harness OTTUMWA – Fred M. “Buss” Harness, 82, of 426 S. Pocahontas died Feb. 4, 2000, at his home. He was born Feb. 15, 1917, in Oskaloosa to Joseph and Margaret McLaughlin Harness. He married Joy Fleer on Aug. 9, 1947; she died Sept. 24, 1991. He served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the O.B. Nelson Post #3, American Legion. He lived in Ottumwa all his life with the exception of 1956 to 1981, when he lived in Broadview, Ill., and worked as a sheet metal worker. He is survived by a daughter, Judy Smith of Tuscon [sic], Ariz.; a son, Johnnie Harness of Tucson, Ariz.; six grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Evelyn Lanning and Betty Grace, both of Ottumwa; and two brothers, Bob of Ottumwa and Clarence “Shorty” Harness of Kemp, Texas. He was preceded in death by five brothers, Fletcher, Merle, Jim, Ronald and Bill Harness; and a sister, Dorothy Harness. The service will be 1 p.m. Tuesday at Reece Funeral Home, the Rev. Mel Kendall of Calvary Baptist Church officiating. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Fred, Bob, Mike and Pat Grace, Gene Scott and Dave Griffin. Visitation will begin at 10 a.m. today at the funeral home with family present from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.
