C. Johnson, became the bride of Mr. Fred Stahnke, oldest son of Mr. and Mrs. August Stahnke. Due to the absence: of their pastor, Rev. H. V. Smith of Glenvil, the Rev. F. C. Lewis of Clay Center officiated. Preceding the ceremony Miss Velma Dunkle of Fairfield sang, "I Love You Truly," then to the strains of the "American Wedding March" played by Miss Lena Johnson, the bridal party entered and stood under an arch made with white streamers, decorated with bouquets of roses and greenery, with a back ground of white lattice work and white streamers with other settings of palms and a large basket of roses, also a number of garden bouquets contributed by the bride's Grandmother Johnson. The bride was beautiful in a gown of wine crepe trimmed in velvet of the same shade. Miss Marie Johnson and Raymond Stahnke attended the couple. Immediately after the ceremony the wedding dinner was served to members of the Immediate families including the bride's grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Johnson; the groom's aunt, Miss Lydia Mosier of Hastings; Mrs. H. V. Smith, Mrs. F. C. Lewis, Miss Velma Dunkle of Fairfield and Miss Alice Deppe. The young couple will be at home to their many friends after October 10th on a farm near Ana, where the groom has engaged in farming for a number of years. ========================= The Clay County News (Sutton, NE), Thursday, June 14, 1990 Fredrick Stahnke 1906 - 1990 EDGAR -- Fred Stahnke of Fairfield died June 5, 1990, in Bryan Memorial Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 84 years, one month and 30 days. Services were held June 8 in the Urbauer-Williams Funeral Home in Edgar, with the Reverend Lawrence McClure and Pastor Harold Fox as the officiating ministers. Music was provided by Velma Johnson, organist, and Wayne Johnson, vocalist. Casket bearers were Aric Sweeney, Bradley Sweeney, Delton, Kliewer, Bill Bottolfson, Rollan Johnson and James Frager. Interment was in the Glenvil Cemetery. Fredrick William Stahnke, the son of August and Carrie Moser Stahnke, was born April 6, 1906, on a farm near Glenvil. He attended grade school at Mulberry Grove rural school, District $ 49. He married Martha M. Johnson on October 2, 1932, at the home of her parents north of Fairfield. They moved to a farm west of Harvard when the Naval Ammunition Depot opened in 1942 and a year later they moved to a farm east of Fairfield. They built a new home in Fairfield in 1971 and have resided there ever since. Mr. Stahnke was a past 4-H Club leader and a past member of the Edgar Lions Club, serving as chairman and member of several other boards in the past. Preceding him in death were his parents, one sister and two brothers. Survivors included his wife, Martha; two daughters, Viola and husband Darelel (sic) Post of Fairfield and Marla Sweeney of Tucson, AZ; four brothers, Ray Stahnke of Spokane, WA, Lloyd Stahnke of Glenvil, Elmer Stahnke of Kansas City, MO, and Maurice Stahnke of Hastings; one sister, Helen Jacobson of Grand Island; six grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren. Memorials may be given to the family.
