He traveled with several carnivals in many... Read More	SMITH, FREDY FRED--Fredy Fred Smith was born to Joel Edward Smith and Lida Crain Smith on August 20, 1927, at Marlow, Okla. He passed away July 31, 2001, at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Lincoln, at the age of 73 years, 11 months and 11 days. He was one of seven children in the family. Fred attended school in Marlow, Okla., until the ninth grade. He then started with a carnival at the age of 17, and later became an independent operator with several games and rides. He traveled with several carnivals in many states, especially in the south and Midwest. He loved the carnival business and made many friends through his carnival association. He enjoyed visiting with his friends and told many stories about the carnival business and things that happened. His carnival life ended on July 7, 1999, when in Diller, he suffered a severe stroke that took the use of his left side. He enjoyed visitors and especially when his grandchildren came to see Grandpa Fred. He also enjoyed dancing and could play a mean harmonica. During his stay at the Exeter Care Center and Fairview Manor in Fairmont he enjoyed bantering with his nurses and helpers. He will be missed by all that knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents; three sisters and one brother; and by a step-grandchild. He is survived by his wife, Leora “Lee” Smith; brother, J.D. Smith and wife, Joyce; sisters, Imogene Olds and husband, Loman, Betty Teel and husband, Glen; sisters-in-law, Wilma Gibbias, Louise Mueller and husband, Dennis; brother-in-law, Clarence Walbrecht; step-children, Bill Bauer and wife Vicki, James Bauer and wife, Corinna, David Bauer, Pamela Kaiser and husband, Phil, Beverly Copanos; 12 step-grandchildren; three step-great-grandchildren and by nieces and nephews. Funeral services were conducted from the Farmer & Son Funeral Home in Geneva at 10 a.m., Friday, Aug. 3, 2001, with Rev. Jay Mitchell officiating. Musical selections were “Amazing Grace” and “The Lord’s prayer.” Casket bearers were Bill, James, David, Tony and Lawrence Bauer and Rodney Little. Interment was in the Geneva Public Cemetery.
