Mr. Jones was a retired farmer and had farmed in the Drakesville area all of his life prior to moving to Ottumwa 18 years ago. Jones, 87, formerly of 702 Lee Avel., died at 6:55 a.m. today at St. Joseph Hospital following an illness of a year. Mr. Jones was a retired farmer and had farmed in the Drakesville area all of his life prior to moving to Ottumwa 18 years ago. He was the son of James and Sarah Houseley [sic] Jones and was born in Davis County Sept. 2, 1877. He was married to Zone Russell in 1900 in Davis County. She preceded him in death March 30, 1946. Survivors include seven sons, Wilbur, Ray, Neal, Winter and Leo Jones, all of Ottumwa, Lester Jones of Mechanicsville and Minor Jones of Marion; four daughters, Mrs. Dollie Stevens and Mrs. Ruby Wilt, both of Otutmwa, Mrs. Pearl Warren of Sacramento, Calif., and Mrs. Evelyne Huffman of Chicago; 29 grandchildren; 35 great-grandchildren; one brother, Elmer Jones of Olathe, Kan., and one sister, Mrs. Lottie Bryant of Centerville. Preceding him in death were one brother and one sister. The service will be Wednesday at 1:30 p.m. at the Johnson Funeral Chapel. Burial will be in Shaul Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers. The casket will be closed at the beginning of the service.
