Durand was born November 24, 1857 in Henry county, Ill., and departed this life at his home south of Lewellen, Nebr., on October 16, 1935 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 22 days. He moved with his parents to near Jamacia, Iowa, while young. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary I. McNaught on January 10, 1882, at Indianola, Iowa. Durand was born November 24, 1857 in Henry county, Ill., and departed this life at his home south of Lewellen, Nebr., on October 16, 1935 at the age of 77 years, 10 months and 22 days. He moved with his parents to near Jamacia, Iowa, while young. He was united in marriage to Miss Mary I. McNaught on January 10, 1882, at Indianola, Iowa. She preceded him in death on September 5, 1928. He came to this section of Nebraska many years ago locating for a time near Lewellen and later moving to Colorado. He returned to Garden county about thirty-five years ago and has since made that community his home. He has acquired land on the south table and also in Ash Hollow and it was on the latter place that he has since made his home. He was a member of the Methodist church and was an active and faithful worker in that church. He was also a member of and a diligent worker in the Modern Woodmen lodge for forty-five years. On November 3, 1929, he was united in marriage to Mr. Evellena Stroud and she together with one daughter, Mrs. Inez Roblee of Lewellen, and three sons, Fred M. and Gordon S., of Lewellen and T. Howard of Oakland, Calif., besides ten grandchildren and one great granddaughter, besides other relatives are left to mourn his death. Funeral services were held from the Methodist church in Lewellen, Rev. T. Elmer Smith, pastor, delivering the funeral sermon and I. W. Wright of this city having charge of the arrangements, burial being made in the Ash Hollow cemetery.
