The Rev. Robert E. Slade officiated at the services. Mrs. Frieda Schoon, Monticello, died July 13 at the Hallmark Care Center in Mount Vernon, following an extended illness. Frieda Engelbarts was born Jan. 26,1892, in Castle Grove Township, the daughter of Benhart and Lena Johnson Engelbarts. She received her early education at the Black Oak School in Jackson Township. Frieda Engelbarts and George Schoon were married Feb. 15, 1911. The couple made their home near Amber, where they farmed. They farmed until their retirement in 1950. They then lived in Anamosa until 1960, when they moved to Monticello. George Schoon died Oct. 11, 1974. Frieda continued to live in Monticello until health problems caused her to move to the care center in 1985. Frieda was a member of St. Matthew's Lutheran Church. Frieda is survived by two children, five grandchildren; 11 greatgrandchildren and four great-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband, two sisters and three brothers. Casketbearers were W.C. Schoon, Walter Smith, Tim Smith, Brad Smith, Colin Reuter, Galen Engelbart and Andrew Parcel. Goettsch Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
