Frieda is survived by her husband Bernard "Bernie" Sayre of Jefferson; her sons Dean Sayre of Jefferson, David Sayre of Jefferson, Donald Sayre of Jefferson, Daniel Sayre of Jefferson, Duane Sayre of San Jose, California; and her daughter Darlene Paup of Alta, Iowa. Memorials are suggested to the Public Health Department at the Greene County Medical Center. Our loss has been heaven's gain as Frieda Georgetta Sayre left us to be welcomed in to her eternal home. She passed away after a long battle with cancer at Greene County Medical Center on Friday, October 29, 2010. She was 79 years old at the time of her home-going. She was born June 20, 1931 to Norwegian Immigrant, Jørgen Kristoffer (George Christopher) Strom and Inez Jeanette Willden in Philadelphia, PA. She graduated Valedictorian from Dobbins Vocational Institute in 1949. In May of that year she took a young service man from Scranton, IA to prom upon the insistence of one of her girlfriends. Frieda married Bernard Dean Sayre on October 29, 1949 in Philadelphia, PA and a journey of 61 years to the day began. As Bernie served in the Navy for over 24 years they lived in various places from east coast to west and back again. After Dad's retirement from the Navy our family settled in Jefferson, IA in July of 1971 Mom's main focus was her family; taking care of her husband and her children.. Mom worked part-time as her children began to leave home to start families of their own. She worked in the children's library for several years and as a home health aide for over 10 years with Public Health Greene County Medical Center. Her parents and her sister Mary Twombly of Cape May, NJ preceded her in death. She is survived by her husband, Bernard; six children; Dean (Gail) Sayre, David (Lori) Sayre, Donald (Ann) Sayre, Daniel (Bessie) Sayre all of Jefferson, IA, Duane (Rachel) Sayre of San Jose, CA and Darlene (Martin) Paup of Alta, IA. 20 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren and her faithful pom, Ole also survives her. Mom spent many hours serving the community through the Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels as well as various church committees and boards. She loved to spend time traveling; going to garage sales, couponing, mending, researching genealogy and watching wildlife but her greatest joys were her family and her faith having committed her life to Christ at the age of 15. She loved her Bible Studies but she was happiest when her children and many grandchildren overtook her home on family occasions. She will be greatly missed. We love you, Mom.
