Read More	SOURCE: THE WYOMING JOURNAL ...APRIL 25, 1940...PAGE 1 OBITUARY OF MRS.JOHN ROHWEDDER Friedricke Christian Elsabe Guebel was born December 22, 1849 In Tellinstedt, Schleswlg-Holstein, Germany. Soon after birth she was baptized and in the year of 1865 was confirmed in the Lutheran church in the city of her birth. In the spring of 1868 she came to America with her brother and locateed in Clinton county, Iowa, where she resided until her marriage to John Henry Rohwedder on August 22, 1871. The following day the bridal pair started via covered wagon to Missouri. Two years were spent there after which they came to Wyoming, Iowa. Her husband died in 1915. To this union were born 10 children, three died in infancy, and one son, Harry, in 1923. Grandma Rohwedder, as she was affectionately known, was endowed with a noble character and kindly disposition. Her cheerful, spontaneous manner won friends wherever she went. High ideals and a progressive spirit coupled with a sincere desire to serve those she loved and help those in need characterized her life, her record is worthy of emulation Naturally energetic and ambitious, she was busy as usual until she retired Monday evening. Soon after arising Tuesday morning she was stricken with cerebral apoplexy. Shortly after she lapsed into a coma from which she failed to revive. Peacefully she passed away Thursday evening April 18, 1940 at the age of 90 years, three months and 27 days. Mrs. Rohwedder is survived by four sons and two daughters, namely, Hans of Olin, Albert, Otto and Ernest of Wyoming, Mrs. Toni Hoist of Center Junction and Mrs. Minna Levsen of Olin. Twenty-one grandchildren and three great-grandchildren also survive. Funeral services were conducted by the Rev. Lloyd Dutro of Waterloo, at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Hoiston Sunday, April 21, at 2:30 p.m. Pallbearers were six grandsons. Burial was in the Wyoming cemetery. Music was furnished by Mrs. Elna Rohwedder and Mrs. Alma Stuart of Olin. Out-of-town relatives and friends attending were Mr. and Mrs. John Rohwedder of Davenport, Mrs. C. B. Walters of Council Bluffs, Mr. and Mrs. Roland Ingwereen of Elvira, Albert Buechner, Mrs. Finn Feddersen, Mrs. John Feddersen, Gus Gradert and Blanche Gradert of Clinton, Emma Jansen, Tim Ingwersen and Dan Ingwersen of Chicago, Mr. and Mrs. Clarence Leinbaugh of Davenport, Mr. and Mrs. Dick Schleget of Davenport, Helen Hansen and Mr. and Mrs. Chris Payson of Clinton.
