In his infancy he received the sacrament of Holy Baptism. While he was still a young boy, his parents removed to Clayton Center, Clayton county, Iowa, where he was confirmed in his Christian faith by the Rev. Fred. Wm. Seifert on Palm Sunday 1869. the same year, now 56 years ago, he came to Seward county, Nebraska, with his parents, brothers and sisters, settling on a farm in Seward county five miles west of Staplehurst. February 21, 1879, he entered matrimony with Miss Emma Sophie Ehlers, the Rev. Traugott Haessler performing the ceremony. To this union were born seven children, five sons and two daughters. On account of failing health he retired from the farm and became a resident of Staplehurst December 30, 1910. Since April 2, 1911, he was a voting member of Immanuel Ev. Lutheran congregation at Staplehurst, faithfully using the means of grace and living a Christian life. For many years, especially during the last two months of his earthly life, he was a great sufferer, his last illness being hardening of the liver with complications. Last Monday, July 27, 1925, he died at the age of 70 years, 2 months, and 4 days. He is survived by his bereaved widow, five sons and two daughters, two sons-in-law, and five daughters-in-law, twenty-six grandchildren, two brothers, and other relatives. May he rest in peace. At the funeral on Thursday afternoon, the Rev. A. A. Schormann, after a short service at the home, delivered the funeral sermon in the German language, taking for his text Psa. 68, 20, 21, and added an English address on the basis of John 16, 22.
