Description	:	Spearville Centennial HAIN Not much is known about Fred Hain. He was born in Baden, Germany in 1839. His family was among the original Windthorst settlers. In August 1882, while working for the railroad, Frad Hain became sick with what is supposed to have been appendicitis. He died shortly after. He was buried at Windthorst without priest or undertaker. Read More	Spearville Centennial HAIN Not much is known about Fred Hain. He was born in Baden, Germany in 1839. His family was among the original Windthorst settlers. In August 1882, while working for the railroad, Frad Hain became sick with what is supposed to have been appendicitis. He died shortly after. He was buried at Windthorst without priest or undertaker. The neighbors arranged the funeral that was made up of prayers and a few religious songs. Barbara Hain, Fred's widow, was a real pioneer mother. When her husband died, her eldest child, Edward, was twelve years old and her infant son, Henry, was six months old. The family was raised and all the hardships of those early days were endured by her. "Grandma Hain" was born in Bavaria in 1846. Her maiden name was Barbara Seitz and she spoke High German. She was considered as a very good midwife to her neighbors. She died in 1935 at the age of 88 years. Sons and daughters are: Edward G. Hain (1870-1934) born in Cincinnati, Ohio, was a Spearville businessman, assessor and banker. He married Clara Temaat. Mrs. Ed Hain who was born in 1883 is still living and owns the property west of Spearville known as "Hain Lake." They had no children. Eva Theresa (1873-1920) born in Cincinnati, married Matthias Konda (1862-1934). To this union were born twelve children. The Konda family has its own family history. Mary Magdalena Hain (1877-1952) married Stephan Konda (1864-1950) and raised her family near Marion, South Dakota. Several of her children still live at that address. Ann (1880-1964) was the first of the Hains to be born in Kansas. She married John Novack (1889-1968) and inherited the family farm. After their children were grown, the Novacks sold the farm and moved to Dodge City. Henry C. Hain (1882-1928) was a farmer. He married Anna Temaat in 1913. He died while his family was very young. Mrs. Anna Hain lived with her son on her farm southwest of Spearville.
