Description	:	On Tuesday afternoon funeral services were held at St. Paul's Lutheran church for Fritz Benub, Seward county pioneer, who passed away at his home east of Seward on Friday evening, January 8th. Interment was made in the church cemetery. Chain & Wood of Seward had charge of the arrangements. Fritz Benub was born at Buchholz, Minden, in the province of Westphalen, Germany, on October 1, 1845. His mother passed away in the first year of his life, which resulted in the unusual circumstance that the son outlived his mother by 90 years. In his life the mother was replaced by two stepmothers in succession. He was united in marriage on February 9, 1873 with Minna, nee Witte, with whom it was his privilege to live for 57 years, celebrating their golden wedding in 1923. This union was blessed with six children, whom all reached maturity but of whom only three survive. Mrs. Benub passed away in 1930 and after that his grandson, Fred W. Benub and wife took over the duties of the household and farm and cared for the deceased in his declining years. Mr. and Mrs. Benub emigrated to America in 1882 and came directly to the very community where they have resided ever since. His age testifies of his rugged constitution. He required the services of a physician for the first time in his life about two years ago. His eyesight was unimpaired, and he retained his mental faculties to an amazing degree. He was a charter member of the St. Paul's Lutheran Church, being one of the three last surviving charter members and the oldest member in the organization. He was elected deacon for several terms some years ago. He is survived by three children, William of Milford, Mrs. Marie Rolfsmeier of Litchfield, and Mrs. Caroline Block of Seward, by nine grandchildren and eight great grandchildren, besides numerous other relatives.
