Description	:	Furman “Hap” Holt passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Jacob’s Creek Nursing Center, just 3 weeks short of his 95th birthday. He was born on July 11, 1921 in Mayodan, NC and spent most of his early years there. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Martha Johnson Holt; his infant daughter, Mary Sue Holt; infant son, Thomas Jackson Holt; brother, Edward Holt and sister, Lettie Sue Nelson. Read More	Furman “Hap” Holt passed into the arms of Jesus on Sunday, June 19, 2016 at Jacob’s Creek Nursing Center, just 3 weeks short of his 95th birthday. He was born on July 11, 1921 in Mayodan, NC and spent most of his early years there. He was predeceased by his loving wife, Martha Johnson Holt; his infant daughter, Mary Sue Holt; infant son, Thomas Jackson Holt; brother, Edward Holt and sister, Lettie Sue Nelson. He was a loving husband. father, grandfather and great grandfather and a wonderful role model for all. He took loving care of his wife for the last 3 years of her life while she was disabled. They were married 69 years. Hap’s passion was music. He began at age 16 playing guitar and mandolin and singing in a country band he formed called “Hap Holt and the Rhythm Rangers”. He moved from there to gospel music, singing in 2 gospel quartets, “Mayo Gospel Four” and “Friendly Five”. He also sang in a barbershop quartet. He formed an all “Men’s Chorus” at Mayodan Baptist Church and served as choir director for 57 years in 12 different churches in North Carolina and Virginia. He loved the Lord and served Him faithfully through his love of music. He worked at many different jobs including Washington Mills, Ryder Truck lines, Carolina Freight Carriers, Old Dominion Truck Lines, Jones Motor Freight, (all as sales representative), Motel management, and finally in his last 20 years for Forbis and Dick Funeral Service in Greensboro. He worked well into his late eighties. Hap had a wonderful sense of humor and kept it throughout his long life. He was genuinely interested in everyone he met. He leaves to cherish his memory his children, Carolyn Holt Evans (John), Robert Furman Holt , and James Hapton Holt –Reid (Keith); his grandchildren, John Evans, Jr. (Carolyn), Jason Evans (Virginia), Jeremy Evans (Tina), Anna Holt, Kasey Holt, Bryan Reid (Tabatha), Josh Reid (Deana); his great grandchildren, Haley Evans, Daniel Evans, Samuel Evans, Jackson Evans, Annabelle Evans, Addison Evans, David Holt, Zach Reid, Noah Reid, Cheyenne Reid, Ellyanna Reid, and Lilyanne Reid. The family expresses sincere and heartfelt gratitude to all the staff at Jacob’s Creek for their loving , caring and compassionate care of Hap for the last 3 years of his life. A brief graveside service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Mayodan Municipal Cemetery. The family will receive friends at the cemetery following the service. A service of remembrance and celebration of Hap’s life will be held at 3:00 p.m. Sunday, June 26, 2016 at Hillcrest Baptist Church in Greensboro, NC. The family will receive friends at the church following the service.
