Smith 73, a retired attorney who practiced law more than 50 years, died at his residence here yesterday, following a lingering illness. Smith 73, a retired attorney who practiced law more than 50 years, died at his residence here yesterday, following a lingering illness. Born July 14, 1889 in Providence, Florida, Smith had spent most of his life in this area. He attended the old East Florida Seminary in Gainesville and graduated from Stetson University in Deland. At the age of 17, Smith was admitted to the Florida State Bar Association as the youngest practicing attorney to pass the bar. In 1956, Stetson University conferred upon him a one-half century diploma for his services of 50 years. Smith is survived by his widow Mrs. Natalye Black Smith, and two children, Mrs. Adelaide Ne Smith and F. Y. Smith, Jr. Alachua one sister – Mrs. Kate Caldwell, Jacksonville; five grandchildren and fourteen great grandchildren. Graveside services are scheduled at 3 P.M. tomorrow at Newnansville Cemetery near Alachua. The Rev. Allan Stuart will officiate, assisted by N. J. Copeland. Williams-Thomas Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements Pallbearers will be V. R. Caswell, U. F. Hester, J. D. Malphurs, J. D. Thigpen, George Duke, and S. P. Haisten.
