Mary was born April 22, 1924 in Bassano, Alberta, Canada to George Alexander Goudie and Cora Dawn Huntting. She was the 6th of 10 children. "Mary" Blyton passed away Thursday, January 5, 2017 surrounded by her family. Mary was born April 22, 1924 in Bassano, Alberta, Canada to George Alexander Goudie and Cora Dawn Huntting. She was the 6th of 10 children. As a young girl growing up on the prairie, she rode horses to school in the warm season. In the winter, she and her sibling would walk closely together taking turns at the front, breaking the wind, or walking in the dry irrigation ditches. After the 8th grade, Mary worked during the harvest for families in the Bassano area. In October of 1943, she began her first adventure as she left the Canadian prairie and moved to Tacoma with her younger sister Marjorie. Mary went to work for Pennington Photography Studio in Tacoma, where she learned to be a photo colorist. It was in these early days in Tacoma that she met a young milkman named Floyd. Floyd would ask Mary to ride with him on the milk route. This was not Mary's idea of a date and she would invite him to go boating in the sound on her employer's boat. Floyd was never able to go because he had a tremendous responsibility to run the Gould's dairy and deliver milk products to their customers. Without a real date, Floyd and Mary were married on September 16, 1945 in the Little Church on the Prairie in Lakewood, Washington. Mary and Floyd started farm life together where they raised their family. In September 1946, they welcomed their 1st child, Ayner; followed by 4 boys: Leonard, Raymond, Bruce and Boyd. Mary was active at the farm and in the Firgrove community over the years. She was an avid gardener, growing an abundance of produce and picturesque flowers. She worked for the Bergman's Hatchery and volunteered with the Boy Scouts when the boys were young. In July 1980, she and the family experienced tremendous sorrow with the passing of her beloved husband, Floyd, after an extended illness and the death of her son Raymond, 10 days later. After these events, she began working as a merchandiser for American Greeting and in 1982, started her annual employment with the Puyallup Fair, where she made and sold chocolate dipped ice cream bars for twenty years. Mary had a tremendous adventurous spirit throughout her life. Her love for nature led her to many of these adventures. It included salmon fishing, trips to Alaska and Hawaii, visiting New England for a quilt tour, plus many other locations in the lower 48 states. Her international trips included: England, Scotland, Ireland, Israel, Finland, Sweden, Norway and Russia. One of her favorite trips was a visit to a childhood friend in Australia and traveling to New Zealand with her. She also went to a passion play in Germany. She was often studying for the next location she wanted to visit. The one common denominator in her travels was including family and friends as companions. She was a great friend to travel with and many of her companions can share in the shenanigans that she involved herself in during the trips. When she wasn't traveling, she turned to helping in the community. Mary volunteered as a reading tutor for an elementary school in Graham and was part of the kitchen crew preparing food for seniors. She attended Firgrove Baptist Church for many years and later Berean Baptist Church. Mary had the gift of hospitality and enjoyed opening up her home to others. Her home was open to a ladies Bible study, visiting family members and friends, card playing and family gatherings. When she met a stranger, they did not stay a stranger for long and were soon enjoying a new adventure with her. Mary is preceded in death by her parents George and Dawn Goudie, siblings Verle (Ed) Merithew, Ruth (Tommy) Pickett, Don (Marion) Goudie, Vic (Laura) Goudie, Marjorie Schweiger, Helen (George) Wilson, and an infant brother (Raymond) and sister (Evelyn). Also preceded in death by her husband Floyd and son Raymond. She is survived by one brother, Win Goudie, of Bassano, Alberta, Canada. She is also survived by her daughter Ayner; sons Leonard, Bruce and Boyd. She is also survived by seven grandchildren, and fifteen great grandchildren and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins in the United States and Canada. Obituary Hill Funeral Home web site [Edited]
