He was a World War II U.S. Army Artillery veteran, watchmaker and manager of Warwick Jewelry in Newport News for thirty-three years, Past President of Watch Makers of Virginia, a sixty-two year member of South Hill Masonic Lodge #297 AF & AM where he served twice as the Master of the Lodge, member of Scottish Rite in Danville, Va. , member ACCA Temple Shrine in Richmond, Va. and a member of American Legion Post 79 and was the Commander in 1949... Read More	Mr. Gafford Yancy "Yank" Pleasants, age 92 of South Hill, died Friday December 23, 2011, in Winston-Salem, NC. "Yank" was the son of William Gafford Pleasants and Grace Yancey. He is survived by his son Gafford Yancey Pearce and his wife Martha of Lewisville, NC, two grandsons Chris and Nathan also of Lewisville, NC, a nephew Robert P. Clark, wife Betty and their son Bobby, a niece Grace Gaines and husband Larry and their children Todd and Cameron and a niece Val Powell and husband Rusty and children Ashley and Brian all of Houston, TX, a sister-in-law Lois Bersch of Rochester, NY, a niece Fran Ellen Kreider of Lima, NY , a niece Anne Young of Arroyo Grande, CA., a niece Ann Rhoads of Hampton and a nephew William Rhoads of Newport News, Va.. A memorial service will be conducted on Saturday January 7, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. in All Saints Episcopal Church with a reception at the church immediately following the service. Inurnment will then follow in Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to the All Saints Episcopal Church, 201 Franklin St., South Hill, Va. 23970 or the South Hill Masonic Lodge.
