Both of her parents died by the time she was age 10, from complications of consumption. The girls were orphans and they had no relatives in Iowa. Custody was granted to him in 1890. F. A. Wilmot brought the girls back to Ohio with him by train. Faye was raised by him and remained in Claridon Twp., Geauga Co OH for the rest of her life, marrying Elwin Starr in 1903. But Gail was homesick for her friends back in Iowa, and the families of both her parents agreed that she should be allowed to return to the only home she had ever known. She returned to Iowa with Claridon resident William Callister and his family. In about 1903, Gail Bell Wilmot married (George) Gilbert Jones, a merchant in Richland, Keokuk Co, Iowa. They had two children: George Russell Jones, born Mar 21 1909, and Pauline M. Jones, born about May 22, 1911 (or 1912). By the time of the 1920 census, the family had moved to Macomb City, McDonough Co, Illinois, where Gilbert clerked in a hardware store. In 1930 they were back in Iowa, living in Clinton, where Gail died in 1970. Gail's Wilmot cousins in Ohio visited her in 1936, and her Starr relatives recalled that her son George married and had several children. Her daughter Pauline may have married a Mr. Johannsen, but I have not been able to confirm this. I am seeking contact with her descendants, my 3rd cousins.
