Oss, 23, 916 S. 13th St., Norfolk, was dead on arrival at a Norfolk hospital following a one-car accident early Friday. The crash took place about 1:25 a.m. approximately 1 3/4 miles west of the city on Highway 275. Oss' step-father and mother are Mr. and Mrs. F. Elmer Owens, operators of the Blue Ridge Motel in Norfolk. According to the State Patrol, Oss was a passenger in a car driven by Eugene R. Yantzie, 22, 1405 Norfolk Ave., who escaped injury. The eastbound auto went out of control on wet pavement and struck a bridge on the north side of the highway. The car was extensively damaged. Oss, found outside the car, was not wearing a seat belt. State Trooper R. W. Boardman of Norfolk investigated the accident with the assistance of State Trooper Don Matejika, also of Norfolk, and the Madison County sheriff's office. Funeral services for Mr. Oss will be held at 11 a.m. Monday at First United Presbyterian Church in Norfolk Officiating will be the Rev. B. C. Poncelow. Burial will be in Prospect Hill Cemetery. The Home for Funerals of Norfolk is in charge of funeral arrangements. Gail N. Oss was born June 19, 1950, at Norfolk. He had been employed here by Nebraska Public Power District. Survivors are his mother, Mrs. Elmer (Desolee) Owens, and step-father, Elmer Owens, both of Norfolk, a brother, Jim Oss, of Woodland Park, Norfolk, and a sister, Mrs. Jim (Gloria) Cobb of Mitchell, S.D. Preceding him in death was his father, James Oss. Oss' death and that of Clyde W. Reed, 58, of Garden City, Kan., in a crash south of Gurley raised Nebraska's 1973 traffic fatality toll to 211, compared with 227 at this time last year. Clyde W. Reed of Garden City is not related to Clyde E. Reed of Norfolk.
