Funeral service will begin at 2:00 p.m. Friday, May 1, 2009 at Canton Lutheran Church with burial to follow at Forest Hill Cemetery. Gale was born December 6, 1947 in Webster, SD to Gale Erwin Esche, Sr. and Arlene Phyllis (Dumke) Esche. Shortly after his birth the family moved to McGregor, MN and in 1954 settled in Canton. Gale graduated from Canton High School in 1965. He attended Southern State College in Springfield, SD for auto body repair and later attended General Beadle State College in Madison, SD. He married Lois Ofstad in December 1969 and they had three children: Jason, Chad and Troy. In April 1995 he was united in marriage to Patricia (Trish) Cressman. He served in the Army National Guard for 6 years as a member of the 147th Field Artillery unit and assisted with the Rapid City Flood in 1972. After his discharge, Gale helped his father farm and with the family business, Esche Oil Company. He later took over the business. Gale was a life-time member of Canton Lutheran Church and a member of the Hudson American Legion Post #128. He was currently employed as a buyer for Keystone Treatment Center in Canton. He enjoyed gardening, car puzzles, Coca-Cola memorabilia, and restoring classic cars. He was a member of the National Impala Association and traveled nationwide to numerous car events. He enjoyed teaching his grandson Dylan about cars and especially how to fix things. His greatest joy was spending time with family and helping anyone in any way he could. Grateful for having shared his life are his wife of 14 years, Trish; sons, Jason (Gina) Hot Springs, SD and their sons Dustin and Thomas, Chad (Valerie), Absarskee, MT, and Troy of Winneaucca, NV; daughter, Missy Rippen and her son Dylan, Sioux Falls; mother, Arlene Esche (Lester) Schneider, Canton; brothers, Mark (Rose) and their son Adam, and Todd (Debra) and their sons Matthew and Daniel, Canton; and numerous aunts, uncles, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. He was preceded in death by his father, Gale Erwin Esche, Sr.
