Description	:	Galen Fred Inks, 75, a longtime resident of Wenatchee, went home to be with his Lord Wednesday, May 1, 2002, surrounded by his loving family. He was born Oct. 21, 1926 in Wenatchee, where he attended Lewis and Clark Grade School and Wenatchee High School. He later moved to Tacoma with his parents, completing his education at Lincoln High School. He joined the USMC on Oct. 19, 1944, and went to boot camp at San Diego MCRD. He was born Oct. 21, 1926 in Wenatchee, where he attended Lewis and Clark Grade School and Wenatchee High School. He later moved to Tacoma with his parents, completing his education at Lincoln High School. He joined the USMC on Oct. 19, 1944, and went to boot camp at San Diego MCRD. Other duty stations included Guam, Peitaiho, China and Hawaii. He served with C Co. 1st MT BN as a 997 Trac Driver and 3531 heavy duty truck driver. Galen was discharged Oct. 19, 1946. He re-enlisted in February, 1947, in Seattle and was stationed at MB Bremerton until November, 1947. He was then sent to Camp Catlin in Hawaii for two years. He was discharged in February, 1950, as a Corporal. He met his wife, Helen Ching Wan Sing, from Maui, and they were married in Reno, NV, Nov. 2, 1949. He was discharged in February, 1950, as a Corporal. Following discharge, he was recalled to active duty for the Korean Conflict. Later, he joined the Seattle Fire Department, retiring as Captain in 1976. While waiting for his wife, Helen, to retire from Boeing, Galen joined the Boeing workforce for a period of three years, until Helen's retirement in 1981, after 25 years. The family moved back to Wenatchee in 1981. He remained active in the Marine Corps League, VFW, and American Legion 40-8. In addition, Galen was a member of the 1st Marine Division and the China Marine Association. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Theresa Gail, son Richard Leroy Inks, parents Ray Harvey and Clara Leota Inks, and brothers Lawrence, Dale and Howard Inks. Galen is survived by Helen, his loving wife of 53 years; daughter Lani Diane Kohler; granddaughter, Maile Rebecca Kohler; grandsons, Brent Kaimanu Kohler and Lance Keoki Kohler; sister Morna Lowe of Bremerton; and special friend Roger Sellman. Memorial Services will be held Monday, May 13, 2002, at 1 p.m. at the Colonial Chapel of Jones & Jones Funeral Directors in Wenatchee. Inurnment will be at Wenatchee City Cemetery. Please join the family at the American Legion Post #10, 208 N. Wenatchee Ave. for the reception and celebration of Galen. The family suggests remembrances to Hope Heart Institute, 1124 Columbia Street, Suite 120, Seattle, WA 98014. Arrangements are entrusted to Jones & Jones Funeral Directors.
