Funeral Services will be held on Saturday August 26, 2017 at the First United Methodist Church in Marshalltown at 11:00. Garnet Thatcher was born March 11, 1918 on a farm in Liscomb, Ia to Milon and Lola (Gould) Thatcher. She attended school in Liscomb, graduating from High School in 1935. In 1939, she married the love her life Calvin Rogers at The Little Brown Church. They moved to Marshalltown where Cal opened Superior 400 Oil and later as a Conductor for the MN & St. L Railroad. She worked for the T.R. driving on a Rural Route for over 17 years. Cal and Garnet bought homes and converted them in to apartments. It was Garnet who took care of the tenant’s needs, which included painting and most maintenance requests. Garnet continued doing this herself after Cal had passed away for over 30 years. In her free time Garnet was a member of the First United Methodist church for over 60 years. She loved bowling and painting china, was an active member of the garden club, and volunteered her time at the Binford House. Garnet was a talented, compassionate woman whose family loved her wisdom and stories. She was a wonderful example for all of us on how to live life filled with caring and love. Left to cherish Garnet’s memory are her daughter, Janet (Hal) Walter, daughter in law Ruth (Bob), grandchildren: Kristi (Jeff), Cindy (Tucker), Todd (Sheri), Andy (Bentley), Mindy (Bob), and Tony (Michelle), great-grandchildren: Jonathan, Jordan, Stephen, Kiley, Shelby, Mackenzie, Halle, Tanner, Jake, A.J., Grant, Calvin, Dakota, Sam, Max, Grady, C.J., and Cooper, sisters Joyce McCormick, and Patricia McAlister. Garnet is preceded in death by her Husband Calvin, parents Milon and Lola, son Warren, and siblings Arlene Meyers, and Milon Thatcher Jr.
