Description	:	Garold Bruce Weasmer, age 83, of Belton, Texas, formerly of the Preston, Iowa, died Monday, February 4, 2008 at home. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery. Read More	Garold Bruce Weasmer, age 83, of Belton, Texas, formerly of the Preston, Iowa, died Monday, February 4, 2008 at home. Funeral Services will be held 10:00 a.m. Saturday, February 9, 2008 at the Miller-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Preston, Iowa. Burial will be in the Preston Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 5:00 - 8:00 p.m. Friday, February 8, 2008 at the Funeral Home. Garold was born in Preston on February 25, 1924 to Cecil and Denzil Weasmer. Following graduation from Preston High School he married Ruth Marvin and then joined the U.S. Army. He was sent to the South Pacific for three years, where he was in battles at New Guinea and the Philippines. His division (43rd) and First Calvary were to be the first to hit the mainland of Japan. The invasion was cancelled, however, when the atom bomb was dropped, forcing Japan to surrender. He was always grateful to President Truman for having the courage to use the bomb to save thousands of American lives. After being discharged he earned his BA at Upper Iowa University and became a business teacher at Chelsea and Tama, Iowa for four years. He then earned a Master of Arts from the University of Iowa. The Farmers Savings Bank at Spragueville, Iowa hired him to be the bank Office Manager for several years until he purchased controlling interest in the bank. He and his wife Ruth ran the bank and bank offices for seven years and then sold their interest. Weasmer served in the office of President of the First Interstate Bank at Cresco, Iowa until his retirement in 1986. Winters were spent in Laughlin, Nevada and the rest of the year he enjoyed in Charleston, Illinois, where his daughter Jerie Weasmer was a professor of English at Eastern Illinois University. He recently followed her family as they relocated to Belton, Texas, where she is a professor at a satellite campus for Texas A & M. He is survived by his wife Ruth, daughter Jerie, and four granddaughters, Ellen, Rachel, Amanda, and Erica. Obituary Source
