Description	:	Gary Dee Tucker, 72, of New London, formerly of Yarmouth, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. Born July 4, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Clifford E. and Mabel M. Kellogg Tucker. Mr. Tucker showed cattle in 4-H as a boy and became a lifelong farmer and cattle producer. Read More	Gary Dee Tucker, 72, of New London, formerly of Yarmouth, died Friday, Sept. 16, 2011, at Henry County Health Center in Mount Pleasant. Born July 4, 1939, in Burlington, he was the son of Clifford E. and Mabel M. Kellogg Tucker. Mr. Tucker showed cattle in 4-H as a boy and became a lifelong farmer and cattle producer. In the 1960s, he owned and operated a corn shelling and trucking business. He graduated from Yarmouth High School in 1957 and attended Burlington Junior College. He was a member of Shinar Cumberland Presbyterian Church in Pleasant Grove. He collected antiques, gardened, canned his own produce, and the past several years held a large Fourth of July barbeque with fireworks. In 2008, he was instrumental in bringing the Hot Beef Sundaes to the tent at Old Threshers. He was a member of Cattlemen's Association, and in 2007, was Des Moines County Cattleman of the Year. He was a member of New London Lions Club, where he served as president in 2008 In 2009 and 2011, he was awarded the Melvin Jones Fellowship Award/Lion of the Year. He enjoyed the Lions Club work at Old Threshers. He enjoyed his morning coffee, checking up on friends, the Burlington Bees, Tuesday auctions at the Wapello Cattle Barn and meals and fellowship with family and friends. Survivors include one brother, Charles Tucker of Summerfield, Fla.; nieces and one nephew. He was preceded in death by his parents and one brother. Visitation will be from noon to 7 p.m. Friday at Elliott Chapel in New London, where family will receive friends from 5 to 7 p.m. The funeral for Mr. Tucker will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Elliott Chapel, with David Tucker officiating. Burial will be in Pleasant Grove Cemetery.
