Gary Douglas Jeffrey was born January 25, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Edmund and Edith (Morse) Jeffrey. He was a graduate of Clinton High School with the class of 1962. Jeffrey, 59, DeWitt, Iowa, died Friday evening, November 7, 2003 at University of Wisconsin Hospital, Madison, Wisconsin following complications of heart surgery. Gary Douglas Jeffrey was born January 25, 1944 in Clinton, Iowa, the son of Edmund and Edith (Morse) Jeffrey. He was a graduate of Clinton High School with the class of 1962. He attended the University of Iowa for two years prior to serving in the U.S. Navy for four years during the Vietnam War. Following his honorable discharge from the Navy, Gary finished his education in Business Administration at the University of Wisconsin-Platteville, graduating in December, 1972. He married JoAnn White, January 13, 1973 at Faith Lutheran Church, Calamus. Gary was employed by John Deere, first at Dubuque for several years until transferring to the Davenport Works at Mount Joy, Iowa. He retired from John Deere in 2001 and has worked part time for D & D Chevrolet, DeWitt. Gary loved the outdoors, especially hunting and fishing. He dearly loved his family and his Harley Davidson. He was an avid Hawkeye and Nascar fan and enjoyed his beloved Labradors, Shadow and Cricket. He attended Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. Gary was a member of Ducks Unlimited, Loyal Order of Moose and National Wild Turkey Federation. Surviving are his wife, JoAnn; son, Chad Jeffrey and his wife, Rebecca, Marion, Iowa; daughter, Kelly Lawrence and her husband, Christopher, DeWitt; grandsons, Tyler and Brady Lawrence and Hunter Jeffrey, and a grandchild due in February; mother, Edith Jeffrey, Clinton; sister, Sharon Sloane, Camanche; a niece and three nephews. Preceding Gary in death was his father, Edmund and a brother-in-law, Fred Sloane. Family and friends may visit at Schultz Funeral Home, DeWitt, from 3 until 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, November 11, 2003. Service of Christian Burial 10 a.m. Wednesday, November 12, 2003 at Grace Lutheran Church, DeWitt. The Rev. Keith Speaks officiating. Interment Clinton Lawn Cemetery. The DeWitt American Legion Post will conduct military rites at the Cemetery. Pallbearers will be Roger White, Ed Decker, Richard Krogman, Curt Hessler, Steve Kean and Tom Kelly.
