Description	:	Gary Leichliter, age 66, of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown and formerly of Boone, died February 15, 2014, at the Veterans Home. Gary Eugene Leichliter was born in Boone on September 16, 1947, the son of Virgil and Doris (Mengel) Leichliter. He graduated from Jefferson Community High School in Jefferson in 1966. He then served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1972. In 1977, Gary graduated from DMACC-Ankeny Campus and also attended classes at Drake University. Gary Eugene Leichliter was born in Boone on September 16, 1947, the son of Virgil and Doris (Mengel) Leichliter. He graduated from Jefferson Community High School in Jefferson in 1966. He then served with the United States Army during the Vietnam War and was discharged in 1972. In 1977, Gary graduated from DMACC-Ankeny Campus and also attended classes at Drake University. For many years, he worked as a custodian for John Deere in Ankeny and later at Iowa State University. He had been a resident of the Veterans Home since 1997. Gary enjoyed crafts, attending church services and Bible Study, listening to music, and watching movies. He especially enjoyed visiting with his family and friends. Gary is preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by two sisters, Cheryl Tilley of Boone and Pat Edwards and husband Phil of Ames; several nieces and nephews; and many friends.
