Oct 11, 1974 OBITUARY: Gary Lee Boswell was born to William Paul and Lois (McDaniel) Boswell on July 19, 1944 at Leon, Iowa. He passed away January 13, 2020 He attended McNeill, a one-room country school until it closed, then completed his education at Lamoni, graduating in 1962. Following his high school graduation he married Mary Swigart on July 25, 1962 and they made their home in Edmond, OK where he attended Oklahoma Christian College for two years. He then enlisted in the Army. His basic training was at Ft Polk, LA, then he was assigned to a Pershing Missile Unit in Lincoln, NE for nine months until his acceptance into Artillery and Missile Officer Candidate School at Ft Sill, OK. He continued to serve with the Pershing Missile Unit in Ft Sill until his discharge. He then continued his education, completing his Bachelor’s degree at the Oklahoma College of Liberal Arts, Chickasha, OK and his Master’s degree in Audiology from the University of Tulsa, Tulsa, OK. He worked at Menorah Hospital in Kansas City, MO for the next seven years before moving back home to Davis City, IA He worked at Green Valley AEA for the next 32 years, retiring in 2009. In 1979 he built and operated with his family, Boswell’s Greenhouse, then moved the business to Lamoni in 1991 and combined that with a gift and antique business. He also designed and built an outside area for his wife’s photography business. He was a lay minister for many small congregations while in college in OK and at Eagleville, MO and Lamoni when he moved back to Iowa. He and Mary made three mission trips to the Turkana District of Kenya where he served on the medical team. He was an EMT and Reserve Deputy with the Lamoni Police Department and the Decatur County Sheriff’s Office for many years. He served on the Board of Supervisors for seven years. He was a member of Trinity Christian Church, Decatur, IA. He and Mary had three children, Timothy Paul Boswell, Cary Lea Williams and Benjamin Michael Boswell. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Lois Boswell, grandson Craigh Anthony Boswell, and father-in-law and mother-in law, Paul and Doris Swigart. Survivors include his wife Mary, children Tim (Sandy) Boswell, Cary (Greg) Williams, and Ben (Brandy) Boswell, grandchildren Nicholas, Renee and Jeff Boswell and their mother Becca Boswell; Trena Williams (Joe) Janish, Felicia Williams and Jacob (Madison) Williams; Brett and Braedon Boswell; brothers Conrad (Helen) Boswell, Dan (Nancy) Boswell, Terry (Pabalene) Boswell, sister Joyce (David) Sams, brother in-law and sister-in-law, Steve and Jean Cate. Services held at Trinity Christian Church, Decatur, IA January 22, 11:00 a.m. Memorials may be sent to Trinity Christian Church, 16773 State HWY 2, Decatur, IA 50067 for Kenya missions.
