Description	:	After Howard was divorced from Maudie Bell McGuire, Gary was raised by Howard. They lived in several places for Howard's work, including an Odd Fellows Lodge. While at Pearsen Coal Mine in Dacono they stayed with the mule tender and cook. In 1952, Howard married Evelyn Meyen, whom he fondly called mom. Evelyn worked at a hospital and was working at the place where Gary was born. He attended Adams City High School, where he pestered Bev to help him with his homework. In 1952, Howard married Evelyn Meyen, whom he fondly called mom. Evelyn worked at a hospital and was working at the place where Gary was born. He attended Adams City High School, where he pestered Bev to help him with his homework. He and Bev were married from November 3, 1963, until she passed away. Right after high school he served an apprenticeship at K&F Products. This started his life-long career as a machinist at Irvin Industries and JH Semp & Sons, where he worked his way up to lead foreman and plant superintendent. For a few years, he worked for Lauridson Farms. Often he would grind tools in the garage or get a part time job teaching machining. He also worked as a guide on horseback for many years in the Pearl area of North Park. A hunting enthusiast, he enjoyed annual trips with family and friends. He was a clever man with a strong sense of family, a friend to many since his early school days and quite a story teller. Baxter Black even used some of his antics in Carhartt Cowboy. He had a mustache that none could ever forget and would routinely get compliments from strangers. His quiet charisma and great sense of humor were liked by all. Survivors included: sons Rocky and Scott (Ginnah); grandkids Taggyrt and Wyollah; brother Ed (Marie) Meyen of Lawrence, KS; sister Bonnie Marquette of McCook, NE; sister-in-laws Jo Sailors of Cheyenne, WY, Edna Kalous of Brush and Dorothy Hoffman of Thornton; and brothers-in-law Jerry (Alice) Hoffman of Parker and Leroy (Jeanette) of Longmont. Preceding were his parents, brothers Dick Meyen, Bill, Donny and Vernon Sailors; brother-in-laws Gordon Marquette, John Kalous, Herman, Raymond and Jim Hoffman, Harvey Miller and Ray Winder; sisters-in-law Evelyn Winder, Rachel Hoffman, Leona Miller and Helen Reiber. He was old-fashioned and cooked in cast iron skillets, used a wood stove and wore suspenders. Truly an “antique”, his staunch support of family and deep friendships are his legacy! Memorial Contributions made to American Legion-Ladies Auxilary in Keenesburg. Funeral Service held March 5th at Tabor-Rice Funeral Home in Brighton.
