Strong, age 75, of rural Howells, NE will be held on Tuesday, August 23, 2016 at 10:30 a.m. at the St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point, NE, with Pastor Richard Brigewatt officiating. Interment will be in the Memorial Park Cemetery in Fremont, NE at approximately 1:30 p.m. Visitation will be on Monday from 5:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. with the family present at the Minnick Funeral Home in West Point and will continue on Tuesday from 9:00 a.m. until the time of the service at the church. Gary passed away on Thursday, August 18, 2016 at Nebraska Medicine in Omaha, NE. Gary Lee Strong was born on December 3, 1940 to Edwin and Hilda (Vollmer) Strong at West Point, NE. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church, rural Howells, NE. Gary attended Cuming Co. Rural School District #75, northeast of Howells and graduated from Howells High School. While in high school, he worked in a body shop and auto repair shop. After high school he took some automotive classes in Lincoln and worked at the Kawasaki plant for a few years. He later went to work for Valmont in Fremont and the State of Nebraska Department of Roads. Gary purchased his own truck and hauled bulk milk for 35 years, seven days a week. In 1998, he sold his truck and began employment at West Point Public High School in maintenance and also drove school bus until he retired for health reasons. Gary was a member of St. Paul Lutheran Church in West Point and enjoyed going camping, boating, and fishing with his children and grandchildren. Survivors include- Son-Brian Strong of Schuyler, NE and daughter-Bristal Daughter- Angie and Ryan Ruzicka of Orchard, NE and children-Austen, Brandi & Caitey Son- Justin Strong of Schuyler, NE and children-Cole, McKenzie & Ty Daughter-Amy and Justin Kean of Omaha, NE Brothers- Ed and Phyllis Strong of Fremont, NE Duane and Carolyn Strong of Gretna, NE Gary was preceded in death by his parents."
