Description	:	Gary Roy Preheim was born April 1, 1942 at Vermillion SD, the son of Emerson and Frances (Wiese) Preheim. He passed away on July 14, 1970 at the age of 28 years, three months and 13 days. Read More	Gary Roy Preheim was born April 1, 1942 at Vermillion SD, the son of Emerson and Frances (Wiese) Preheim. He passed away on July 14, 1970 at the age of 28 years, three months and 13 days. He was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and was a member of the First English Lutheran Church of Centerville SD. Gary graduated from Centerville High School in 1960. he attended South Dakota State University at Brookings SD. For the past nine years, he has worked for the South Dakota Highway Department and served in the Army National Guard. On Oct 15, 1966, he was married to Karen Knudson of Centerville. In addition to his wife Karen, he is survived by two sons, Bradley, age 3 and Brian age 1; his parents, Mr and Mrs Emerson Preheim of Centerville; his maternal grandmother, Mrs Paul Wiese of Centerville; and his paternal grandfather, Henry Preheim also of Centerville SD. Services were held at the First English Lutheran Church, Rev Robert Hackler officiating. Vocalist were Mrs Arnold Wiebers, Mrs Everett Frier, Mrs Lenora Frey, and Mrs Donald Rist. Miss Sheryl Frier was the accompanist. Mrs Lenora Frey was the organist. Interment was in Riverview Cemetery, Centerville SD. Casket bearers were Terry Olsen, Roger Wiese, Raymond Bielau, Dean Hybertson, Larry Peterson, and Larry Heidebrecht. Gary died from injuries sustained when a twister hurled the State Highway pickup truck he was driving, about 400 feet, from the west lane of traffic through the east lane and into the ditch on Interstate Highway 29 a half mile south of the Viborg interchange. He and a co worker, Earl Hedeen of Beresford, were returning to Beresford from a project at Canton when the storm struck shortly before 4 pm.
