Read More	Gary Russell West, 54, of Wenatchee and a life resident of the Wenatchee Valley, died Wednesday, August 20, 2003, in the University of Washington Hospital, just one week after his 54th birthday. He was born on August 13, 1949 to Russell "Bun" and Betty (Kelley) West, the oldest of six children, at Leavenworth, where he grew up and received his education, graduating from Leavenworth High School in 1967. Gary then attended Central Washington College where he received his degree in education in 1971. On August 27, 1971 he married his high school sweetheart, Patti Koenig, in Leavenworth, who remained the love of his life for their 32 years together. Gary was a teacher for 30 years at Sterling Middle School in East Wenatchee, a job that he enjoyed completely. He coached soccer and basketball and was an active band booster. His free time was spent with valued friends and family, often hiking or skiing in remote areas of the Cascade Mountains. In fact, Gary loved the forest so much that he built his own, planting hundreds of fir and pine trees surrounding his home in South Wenatchee. He was a fun loving and gracious host and took great joy in entertaining his many friends there at his historic three-story brick home, dubbed ‘third pig's house'. Gary was a proud and loving father to his and Patti's two children, Phil and Josie. He was a huge supporter of all their endeavors and reveled in their many accomplishments. They meant the entire world to him. Those loved ones left behind, who will miss Gary immensely include, his wife, Patti of the family home, their children, Phil and Josie, both students at the University of Washington. His mother, Betty West of Leavenworth. His four brothers, Mike, Jake, Cory and Ken all of Leavenworth. His sister, Sally West of Milwaukee, Oregon. Many aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, cousins and countless friends. A time of Gathering to Celebrate the life of Gary R. West, will be held at 3:00 p.m., Saturday afternoon, August 30, 2003 in the Mt. View Cemetery on Icicle Road, with Mr. Dave Lane, officiating. Friends are then invited to join with the family at the home of Mike & Jody West, 10447 Titus Rd; for a continued time of celebrating Gary's life. Ward's Funeral Chapel, Leavenworth, is in charge of the arrangements.
