Description	:	Gary Schnurstein, 73, of rural Frederika, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Gary was born on July 9, 1946, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Mabel Florence (Goranson) and Ruben Schnurstein. He grew up farming with his Dad on their century farm. Read More	Gary Schnurstein, 73, of rural Frederika, Iowa, passed away on Friday, January 3, 2020, at UnityPoint Health-Allen Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. Gary was born on July 9, 1946, in Waverly, Iowa, the son of Mabel Florence (Goranson) and Ruben Schnurstein. He grew up farming with his Dad on their century farm. After graduating from Tripoli High School in 1964, Gary started working at John Deere in Waterloo. He retired after 30 years of service. On July 20, 2002, Gary was united in marriage to his long-term soulmate, Renee Nordman, at St. John’s United Church of Christ – Siegel. Gary’s memberships include St. John’s United Church of Christ – Siegel where he served on the church council, the UAW Local #838, and ABATE of Iowa District 14. He was a very loving, intelligent, understanding and likable man who was enjoyed by all that knew him. He was a very talented mechanic and enjoyed rebuilding his Oliver tractor and ’46 Knucklehead. Gary collected Harley Davison memorabilia and enjoyed riding his motorcycles, especially with Renee. The two of them rode everywhere! He also enjoyed the outdoors, fishing, animals, and loved the hundreds of monarch butterflies that migrated through his yard every year. However, family was the most important to Gary. He was a very dedicated husband, father and grandfather. His family meant everything to him! Gary is survived by his wife, Renee; one son, Troy (Emily) Schnurstein of Janesville, Iowa; two daughters, Angie (Mike Bridges) Pint of Berlin, Wisconsin and Monica Schnurstein of Waverly, Iowa; six grandchildren, Shelby, Samuel, Shawn, Taylor, Tanner and Kelsey; one sister, Joyce Lahman of Guttenberg, Iowa; one sister-in-Law, Connie Nordman; and three nieces, Christa, Tiffany and Alesha; He was preceded in death by his parents and brother-in-law, Neil Nordman. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Tuesday, January 7, 2020, at St. John’s United Church of Christ - Siegel with Pastor Eugene Walther officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4:00 to 7:00 p.m. on Monday, January 6, 2020, at Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly and also one hour prior to the service at the church on Tuesday. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Renee for donation to the COPD Foundation. Kaiser-Corson Funeral Home in Waverly is assisting the family.
