Description	:	A Sioux City youth drowned early Thursday morning while attempting to swin across Crystal Lake with a companion. The body of Gary Stephen Dinkel, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs. Robert Dinkel, 1845 S. Olive Street, was recovered about 2 a.m. by the Dakota City Rescue Squad. Dakota County Deputy Sheriff Harvey Bates said young Dinkel and Curtis Allen Bue, 17, 4101 Gordon Drive, attempted to swim across the lake from the east shore. Dinkel apparently became tired and yelled for help, Mr. Bates said. Curtis swam back and pulled him approximately 30 feet toward shore. But he was unable to rescue Gary, however, and the boy went under about 75 to 100 feet from the shoreline. The accident occurred about 12:50 a.m. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m Saturday at St. Mark's Lutheran Church. The Rev. Wade H. koons, pastor of Augustana Lutheran Church, will officiate. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery under direction of the W. Harry Christy Funeral Home in Morningside. Pallbearers will be Roland and Michael Choquette, Brad Hittle, Kevin Dinkel, Steve Sorenson and Ferrell Merryman. Mr. Dinkel was born December 10, 1952, in Sioux City, and was a lifelong resident here. He attended East High School and was a member of the Sea Cadets for two years. He worked for four years at DeWitt's Morningside Skelly Service Station and at the time of his death was employed by Aalfs Manufacturing Co. He attended St. Mark's Lutheran Church. Survivors include his parents; a brother Robert, and a sister Mrs. Gary (Gloria) Rowe, both of Sioux City, and his maternal grandparents, Mr. and Mrs. B. W. Elliott of Kennett, Mo.
