A visitation will be held from 4-8pm with a 7:00 pm Rosary Service on Friday, July 17, 2015 at Fullerton Funeral Home, 123 2nd St SE, Mason City. Inurnment will follow at a later date at St. Patrick’s Catholic Church Cemetery in Dougherty, IA. Gary was born on January 7, 1959 in Mason City, IA to Clement and Lillian (Davis) Ewen. He was the youngest of five children. Gary graduated from Rockford High School in 1977. At the young age of 17 he continued his family’s farming legacy after his father passed away. On June 20, 1981 he was united in marriage to DeeAnn (Larson) Ewen. After marriage the couple resided on the Ewen’s Century Farm and spent 34 wonderful years together. Gary and his wife DeeAnn had one beautiful daughter, Chelsea. Throughout his life Gary worked for Zoetis and most recently for Gilbert’s Sale Yard. He helped with sales, worked on machinery, and loved driving truck, especially in the bluffs of eastern Iowa. Gary enjoyed anything that had to do with farming. He loved riding Oliver tractors, raising beef cattle, and working on machinery. His favorite was the fall season combining corn. Gary learned how to drive a team of horses and enjoyed doing so for local parades. He also enjoyed tractor rides, watching NASCAR, gardening vegetables, learning about history, and flying his powered parachute. Gary was a generous neighbor. He always offered a helping hand and liked tinkering outdoors in his shop. He was very hardworking, intelligent, rambunctious, lively, and loving. Most of all Gary loved his family. He went on many camping trips with family and friends, especially to Pikes Peak State Park. His family and friends were most important in his life. Those left to cherish his memory include his wife, DeeAnn Ewen; daughter, Chelsea Ewen and her boyfriend Bill Rowcliffe; two sisters, Rosemary (John) Clayton and Lorena (Rich) Seimons; two brothers, Dennis Ewen and Don (Carolyn) Ewen; nieces and nephews, Tonya Obermeier, Jessie (Jason) Reicks, Cole (Ada Ewen, Julie (Amy) McGraw, Michael Shaw, Amy (Brady) Bruns, Angie Swanson, Eric Larson, Laura (Aaron) Cunningham, Denver Larson, and many other family and friends He was preceded in death by his parents and sister Catherine in infancy.
