He grew up on a farm in Avoca and graduated from AvoHA High School. Gary married Dorothy Butcher on February 14, 1978 at the United Church of Christ, they had one son Gary Sievers Jr. Gary served in the United States Army and worked as a cook. When he returned home he was a heavy equipment operator and also worked as a resident counselor at REM/Leadway in Shelby, Iowa. After retiring Gary lived at Peace Haven Retirement Home in Walnut, Iowa, as his health changed he moved to Salem Lutheran Homes in Elk Horn, Iowa where he lived until his passing. Gary enjoyed hunting and fishing and loved talking to people and telling stories and jokes. Gary died on Sunday, January 10, 2016 at Select Specialty Hospital in Omaha, Nebraska having attained the age of sixty eight years, nine months and ten days. He was preceded in death by his parents, his son Gary Sievers Jr., sister Donna Jean Sievers, brother Max Sievers, sister Sheryl Patwardhan and her husband Dr. Ramesh Patwardhan, and nephew Matthew Brei. He is survived by his siblings; sister-in-law; grandchildren, great grandchildren, and many nieces, nephews and friends. = = = = = = = = = = = = = = = =
