Read More	Transcribed from an obituary dated December 25, 1947 in the Center Point Historical Society Gay Andrews, 66, resident of the Center Point community practically all of his life, passed away Saturday in a Cedar Rapids hospital. Mr. Andrews had been experiencing a decline in health for several months and quite recently was bedfast because of an attack of phlebitis. However, this condition had improved to the extent that he was able to follow normal pursuits to a limited degree. He became critically ill last week, and on Thursday was removed to the hospital for surgery. He rallied from the operation, but began to fail rapidly Saturday and passed away about eight o'clock that evening. Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Methodist church in Walker, with Rev. E. W. Walls of Des Moines, superintendent of the Free Methodist Churches in this district, conducting the rites. Mrs. Jack Ashlock and L. J. Dennis, accompanied on the piano by Mrs. William Bull, sang two hymns - "Face to Face" and "Rock of Ages." Those who attended the casket were Roy Andrews, Carl Andrews, Hubert Trimble, Everett Cress, Forrest Cress, and Lloyd Cress. Burial was in the Green's Grove cemetery in the vicinity in which he was born. The following life sketch was read at the funeral: Gay Lovell Andrews, son of B. W. and Nancy Andrews, was born May 9, 1881, on a farm south of Center Point. He was married to Bertha Eaton July 31, 1899, and they established a home on a farm south of Center Point. They became the parents of a daughter, Lorean Izola. Mrs. Andrews passed away March 7, 1901 and the daughter passed away at the age of 21. On November 13, 1901 he was married to Florenda Edith Eaton. Five children were born to this union. One of the children died in infancy and those who survive their father are Velma Pearl Beyer of Walker; Ila Fay Pauley of Vinton; Clarence Loyd Andres of Center Point; and Adeline Pearl McQueen of Cedar Rapids. The mother of the children passed away September 30, 1909. On August 22, 1911 he was married to Catherine Sarah Clark. Two children were born of this union, both of them dying in infancy. Mr. and Mrs. Andrews also made a home for and raised Zelma McFarland of Quasqueton. Gay, as he was familiarly known to his friends, farmed most of his life with the exception of three years, at which time he operated the elevator at Brandon, Iowa. He was a member of the Walker Livestock Exchange, and for the second year was serving as chairman of the board of directors. He was a member of the Free Methodist Church, having been a faithful member for thirty-seven years. Besides his wife and children, he leaves to mourn his passing fourteen grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; two brothers, Aquilla Ellis Andres of Center Point and William Wilson Andrews of Palo; and one sister, Emma Jane Trimble of Center Point. A brother and sister preceded him in death.
