Description	:	Gaylin V. Gibb, 79 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010 at his home. His funeral service will be held on Thursday, August 19, 2010 at 10:00 a.m. at Gering Memorial Chapel with Pastor Paul Hebbert officiating. Interment will follow at West Lawn Cemetery with military honors provided by the Nebraska Army National Guard. Visitation will be Wednesday from 1:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at the chapel. Gibb, 79 of Gering, Nebraska passed away Saturday, August 14, 2010 at his home. Memorials may be given to Donor's choice. Gaylin was born on May 5, 1931 in Gering, Nebraska to Thomas A. and Eva V. (Turner) Gibb. He attended schools in Gering. He enlisted in the U.S. Army and served three years active duty during the Korean Conflict and received several decorations. He was a life member of the National Rifle Association and a talented gunsmith. He was involved in rebuilding motorcycles, old jeeps and model A cars with friends. He spent many hours studying various versions of the Bible. He was a partner with his brother Guy, in Gibb Bros Blacksmith & Welding shop and continued to operate it after his brother, Guy's death. He also worked at Great Western Sugar for a period of time. Survivors include Barb Gibb of Gering; Thomas A Gibb of Scottsbluff, Clyde E. (Carol) Gibb of Kimball, Allen (Patricia) Gibb of Deer Lodge, MT; Quentin Gibb of Greeley, CO, Zak (Amanda) and Isaac Gibb of Longmont, CO, Zeb Gibb of Reno, NV; Valorie M. (Dustin) Fankhauser , Marissa, Grace and Hunter Fankhauser, Phoenix Gibb all of Gering; Katelyn A Gibb of Chappell, Lynn Gibb and Mindy (Mike) and Hope Anderson all of Sidney. He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers and one nephew. AS A TEENAGE FARM BOY I LOOKED FORWARD TO MY VISITS TO THE GIBB BLACKSMITH AND WELDING SHOP ON M STREET IN GERING. THEY WERE TRULY CRAFTSMEN OF THE HIGHEST CALIBER. I WOULD DROP OFF AND LATER PICK UP BEAN KNIVES AND PLOW SHARES TO BE SHARPENED, AND WELDING OF FARM IMPLEMENTS.THEIR HUMOR AND WIT WAS UNMATCHED BY ANYONE ELSE IN GERING. THEIR SHOP WAS LIKE AN EARLY VERSION OF COMEDY CENTRAL. I TOO WAS A "SUGAR TRAMP" DURING A FEW CAMPAIGNS AT THE GREAT WESTERN SUGAR FACTORY. ON MY BREAKS, I WOULD ALWAYS MAKE IT A POINT TO VISIT THE GIBB BROTHERS ON THE "PUP" CREW IN THE WAREHOUSE. THERE I WOULD GET MY JOKES FOR THE DAY AND MANY A GOOD LAUGH.
