NOTT COUNCIL GROVE -- Gaylord O. Nott, 85, of Council Grove died Sept. 14, 1996, at Morris County Hospital in Council grove. Mr. Nott farmed west of Council Grove for several years and later owned a farm north of Dunlap. After a tractor accident, he bought the Patton Dry Goods store in Council Grove and also owned the Gambles Store. he was employed at the Kendall Funeral Chapel, drove the ambulance and assisted ambulance personnel. He was employed almost 40 years with the Texas Refinery Corp., a water proofing company. Mr. Nott helped form the Morris County Sheriff's Posse and was president for one and a half terms. He was a member of the board of the Dunlap and Valley Point schools and the Farm Bureau. Gaylord O. Nott, the son of Jesse Lee and Maude Irene Logue Nott, was born May 11, 1911, at Fay Okla., in the Indian Territory Cherokee Strip. The Nott family came to Morris County by covered wagon and Mr. Nott was reared on his grandfather's farm west of Council Grove. He attended Union Dale School and graduated from Council Grove High School. He lived in and around Council Grove most of his life. He married Bernice B. Stevenson at Yates Center on Jan. 21, 1931. She died Jan. 30, 1985. He married Jessie Burnett Williams on May 4, 1986. She died March 17, 1996. Mr. Nott was a former member of the Council Grove Chamber of Commerce, Kiwanis and Odd Fellows. He is survived by four daughters, Lucille Litke of Council Grove, Karen Metcalfe and Wanda Hedgespeth of Dunlap and Darlene Jones of Carterville, Mo.; two sons, Dale E. Williams of Council Grove adn Bill Nott of Milwaukee, Wis.; three sisters, Darlene Tewalt; Edna Roberts and Jewel Dagley, all of Washington State; 21 grandchildren; 24 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. The funeral will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday in the Kendall Funeral Chapel at Council Grove. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery at Council Grove. The family will meet friends from 7 to 8:30 p.m. today at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions to the St. Jude Children's Research Hospital may be sent to the funeral chapel.
