Description	:	Alberta Death Registration #002-817 says he was born in Norway. Other source: Down Cereal's Memory Trails Volume 1 - page 45-46. In the book he is referred to as Gelbert. His marker says Gilbert. Gelbert homesteaded on S 1/2 3-29-06W4 north of the late townsite of Cereal, Alberta. Gelbert came from Minnesota in 1909 and filed on a homestead and returned to Minnesota. In 1910 he arrived back from Webster, Minnesota with his brother Theodore. They went as far as Kindersley, Saskatchewan by train and purchased oxen and a wagon before proceeding the rest of the way.... Many of the homesteaders went back to Minnesota for the winter but Gelbert stayed with his brother Ole, Ole's wife Mary and their four children Elsie, Oliver, Priscilla and Ruth. Gelbert's first house was a dugout in the side of a hill. He later built a two room house with lots of windows known as the "glass house on the hill." 4 KASA brothers, 3 with wives, homesteaded at Cereal. Three are buried at the Cottrell Cemetery and 1 brother and his wife headed north and are both buried with most of their family at Ferry Point, AB. The school was named Webster, after Webster, MN. It was built on Ole's land, so the children had a ½ mile to go to school. This parcel of land is located maybe 2-3 miles northwest of the Cemetery.
