Services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Wednesday at Church of St. Anne, Bismarck, with the Rev. Ed Wehner officiating. Burial will be in St. Mary's Cemetery, Bismarck. Gene was born June 23, 1940, in Hazen, the eldest of Fred and Hulda (Weisz) Sayler. He grew up in Center and graduated from Center High School in 1958. He graduated in 1963 from Dickinson State University with a degree in business education. He taught math and business at McClusky High School in 1963 and Sidney, Mont., from 1964 to 1970. Gene married Carol Dennis in Belfield on Aug. 7, 1965. They lived in Sidney from 1965 to 1970 when they moved to Bismarck. He received a master's degree in 1970 from Montana State University in Bozeman, in business education with an emphasis on vocational education. He worked for the State Board for Vocational Education for 29 years, retiring in 1999. Some of his honorable memberships included serving on St. Anne's Grade School and St. Mary's Central High School boards. He was a member of NDVA and NDEA. Gene enjoyed watching his children and grandchildren grow, taking in many activities and showing his support in all their sporting and nonsporting events in which his love and support were one of his greatest assets. He was a very dedicated man. He was an avid reader and enjoyed all sports, including, volunteering at various high school activities and coaching his daughters and nieces in softball during the summer months. Gene had many hobbies, especially gardening and carpentry work. He was a jack-of-all-trades, "Mr. Organization." Gene is survived by his wife, Carol; their children, Karlinn and his wife, Lori, and their children, Andrew and Rikki Sackmann, Genelle and her husband, Kelly Dollinger, and their daughters, Jordan and Kara, Gerene and her husband, Darin Mattern, and their son, Treyton, and Ky Sayler, all of Bismarck; two brothers, Jim (Betty) Sayler, St. Louis, and Dennis Sayler, Hettinger; and one sister, JoAnn (Dan) Zimmerman, Dickinson. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Hulda Sayler. =============================
