Hanna MONTICELLO — Gene C. Hanna, 68, Rt. 1, Monticello, died at 4:26 a.m. Tuesday in White County Memorial Hospital. Born Dec. 25, 1920, in White County, he was the son of David R. and Sarah E. Evans Hanna. He was married in 1953 to Helen Van Meter, who died July 7, 1969. On July 13, 1970, he was married to Virginia Bowman Gatewood, who survives. He was a building contractor and mason. He was a member of the American Legion and Moose Lodge in Monticello. He had lived in White County his entire life. Surviving are three sons, Wayne, Buffalo, N.Y., David, Springfield, Va., and Gary G., Lafayette; three daughters, Carol Hanna, Allen, Texas, Cheryl Decker, Indianapolis, and Billie Jo Alpha, Monticello; one stepson, W.S. "Stan" Gatewood, Valparaiso; one stepdaughter, Anna L. Gatewood, Monticello; two sisters, Florence Squires, Remington, and Ruth Lambert, LaPorte; two brothers, Dale, Monticello, and Don, Winter Haven, Fla.; and 18 grandchildren. One stepson and one brother preceded in death. Services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday in Miller-Voorhis Funeral Home, with the Rev. Dr. William Weckerly officiating. Burial, with military graveside rites, will be in Riverview Cemetery. Friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday in the funeral home. Memorial contributions may be made to the White County Cancer Society.
