Description	:	Gene D. Knadle, age 82, of Watertown, SD, passed away on Monday, January 7, 2013, at Jenkins Living Center in Watertown. Memorial services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, January 10, 2013, at the Grace Lutheran Church in Watertown with the Reverend Dennis Hansen officiating. Music will be furnished by Robbyn Givens as soloist accompanied by Marcia Jelsma. Interment will be in Mt. Hope Cemetery, Watertown, SD. Military honors will be conducted by the Watertown Army National Guard Funeral Honors Team and Patriot Guard Riders. Gene Douglas Knadle was born on July 16, 1930, to Ernest and Hazel (Schenck) Knadle in rural Hamlin County, SD and lived on a farm in rural Vienna, SD. At a young age Willow Lake, SD, became his home when he moved there to live with his aunt and uncle, Evelyn (Schenck) and John Valentine in Willow Lake. Gene attended school in Willow Lake through his sophomore year and in Vienna during his junior and senior years. He graduated from Vienna High School in 1948. Gene joined the United States Navy in December of 1950 and was stationed at Key West, Florida, on the U.S.S. Howard W. Gilmore serving during the Korean War. On October 19, 1952, he married Doris Buck in the Evangelical Lutheran Church in Vienna, SD. Following his honorable discharge in October of 1954, he returned to SD and Gene and Doris lived in Watertown. He worked at Valentine Produce in Willow Lake, SD, and Bichler Motors in Watertown. He then began his own shop, Gene's Auto Electric in Watertown. After closing his shop in 1995, he worked for area farmers and did some trucking. Gene loved to fish and hunt, and enjoyed conversations with his friends over coffee. A favorite pastime was taking long rides in the country with his labrador retrievers and dancing was a must. Gene was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, William Knadle; his son, Pat; and his brothers-in-law, Charles Kirsch and James Adamek. He is survived by his wife, Doris; his children, Cindy (Tom) Bierscheid of Watertown, Bob (Barb) Knadle of Ipswich, SD, Mike (Mona) Knadle and Ed (Cathy) Knadle of Watertown, and Shelly (Perry) Forst of Norwood Young America, MN; his daughter-in-law, Karen Knadle of Mitchell, SD; 11 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; his siblings, JoAnne Adamek of Bella Vista, AR, Marilyn Kirsch and Beverly Reinhart of Sioux Falls, SD, Sheila Knadle of San Bernardino, CA, James (Betty) Knadle of Hayti, SD, Linda (Clayton) Maag of Florence, SD, Randy (Myrna) Knadle of DeSmet, SD, Terry Knadle of Eagan, MN, and Mark Knadle of Hayti, SD; and his sister-in-law, Judy Knadle of Bella Vista, AR.
