Gene Einwalter, age 82, of Ft. Atkinson, IA, died peacefully at his home on Tuesday, December 21, 2010 with his wife, Madonna, by his side.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m. Monday, December 27, 2010, at St. John's Catholic Church in Ft. Atkinson, IA, with Rev. Nick March presiding. Burial will be in the church cemetery

Friends may call on Sunday from 3:00 p.m. - 7:00 p.m., December 26, 2010 at the Schluter Balik Funeral Home, Chekal Chapel in Ft. Atkinson, Iowa. There will be a rosary at 4:00 pm and a scripture service at 5:00 p.m. on Sunday. Friends may also call after 9:30 a.m. Monday morning at the funeral home.
Gene Ernest Einwalter was born on May 30, 1928, on the family farm west of Fort Atkinson, IA, to Frederick and Cecilia (Sattler) Einwalter. Gene farmed with his father until he joined the Army on December 13, 1950. He served during the Korean Conflict, was discharged on December 12, 1952, and returned home to the family farm. On May 29, 1952, he married Madonna Wichman at Our Lady of Mount Carmel Church in Lawler, IA. They became the proud parents of four children: Gene Dale, Jane Ann, Madonna Mae and Joann Marie. He was a member of St. John's Catholic Church in Fort Atkinson as well as a member of the Catholic Order of Foresters and the Huber Steffes American Legion Post #672 in Ft. Atkinson. He enjoyed traveling, playing cards, and visiting relatives and friends; but most of all he enjoyed spending time with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Gene is survived by his wife: Madonna, Ft. Atkinson, IA. Three daughters: Jane (Tom) Milcoff of Cedar Rapids, IA; Donna (Kevin) Ellis of Cedar Rapids, IA; and Joann (Dean) Kron of Johnston, IA. Grandchildren and great grandchildren: Polly (Mark) Brooks and Mason of West Des Moines, IA; Tony (Michelle) Milcoff and Mikayla, Skila and Genna of Amana, IA; Gene Secora (Angie Johnson) and Dylon, Paige and Emersyn of Marion, IA; Alisha Ellis and Dominic and Nadia of Des Moines, IA; and Alex and Leah Kron of Iowa City, IA. One sister: Sister Arlene Einwalter, Greenfield, WI. Six sisters-in-law: Sister Cephas Wichman, Cedar Rapids, IA; Eleanor Burke, Elma, IA; Margaret (Dick) Reginold, Fairbank, IA; Lynnette (Paul) Ellefson, Mesa, AZ; Mary Ann Wichman, Marion, IA; and Elaine (Al) Spence, Rudolph, OH. Two brothers-in-law: Robert (Marian) Wichman, Cedar Rapids, IA and Leo (Mary) Mihm, Portland OR.
Gene was preceded in death by his son: Gene Dale, June 11, 1974; his parents: Cecilia and Fred; sisters June (Amer) Chadwick and Ethel (Adolph) Novak. Also preceding him in death are his father and mother-in-law: Joseph and Huberta Wichman; brothers-in-law: John, Joseph, Edward and James Wichman; and sisters-in-law: Dorothy Mihm and Delores (Don) Hubka. |
