Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Jesse Willard Harvey for 52 years and son of the late Charlie Hoover Harvey and Laura Atkins Harvey. Read More	Gaffney, SC - - Gene Hershel (Hoss) Harvey, 74, of 308 Carroll Estate Road, went home to be with the Lord on Monday, December 18, 2017 at his residence. Born in Gaffney, he was the husband of Jesse Willard Harvey for 52 years and son of the late Charlie Hoover Harvey and Laura Atkins Harvey. He was a graduate of Gaffney High School and Tabernacle Bible College, was a retired Evangelist and servant of the Lord. He was a U. S. Navy veteran and a member of Open Door Baptist Church where he drove the Church bus and participated in outreach programs. Hershel loved the Lord and His Word and loved his family. Surviving in addition to his wife are a son, Bryan Hershel Harvey and wife, Freda of Gaffney; a daughter, Renee Johnson and fiancé, Ronnie Best of Gaffney; two sisters, Doris Greene and husband, Gene, and Diane Hollifield, both of Gaffney; six grandchildren, Joshua Charles Harvey, Haley Marie Johnson, Kimberly Danielle Johnson, Samuel Davey Johnson, Heather Smith and Jessica Thompson; seven great-grandchildren, Jessica, Russell, Krista, Iris, Trinity, Aidyn and Isaiah; numerous beloved nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by a sister, Mildred Coggins and four brothers, Sam Harvey, Nickus Harvey, Paul Harvey and Dean “Chester” Harvey. The family will receive friends from 12:00 until 2:00 PM on Saturday, December 23, 2017 at Open Door Baptist Church. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2:00 PM at the Church with Rev. Lewis Batchelor and Rev. Joe Brackins officiating. Interment, with military honors, will be in Oakland Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, 308 Carroll Estate Road, Gaffney.
