A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. on Saturday Sept. 20, at Calvary United Methodist Church in Ames with visitation with the family at 10 a.m. A luncheon will follow the service. Gene was born Nov. 11, 1944, in Carlisle, the son of Donald and Myldred (Haynes) Love. He attended Ames High School. He lived in Carlisle, Ames, Sioux City and Laughlin, Nev. He worked for Dr. Pepper Bottling Co. and the city of Ames. In the Sioux City area, he worked for IBP, Walmart and Lakebridge Communications. He was a manager of apartment complexes, a driver for WeeCare and did seasonal work for Mayberry Farms. He was a member of IBEW of Ames. He was a friend of Bill W. for 25 years. He enjoyed exploring, photography, history, motorcycles, golfing and helping others, especially the underdog. He is survived by his mother, Myldred Love, of Ames; three sons, Rick Love, of Ames, Tim (Laura) Love, of Kelley, and Chris Love, of Marshalltown, Iowa; three grandchildren, Alicia and Austin Love, of Kelley, and Dustin Cakerice, of Ames; two brothers, Dale (Jan) Love, of Madison, Wis., and Gale (Diane) Love, of Ames; one sister, Glenda (Don) Ashley, of Ames; five nieces and nephews; and special friend, Rita Nelson. He was preceded in death by his father and grandparents. siouxcityjournal
