Description	:	Gene Raymond Murray, 69, of Connersville died Monday, October 30, 2006 in the emergency room at Fayette Memorial Hospital. A Connersville native, he was born February 10, 1937 to Walter and Jessie Lucas Murray and attended Connersville area schools. In 1954, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served with the rank of Master Sergeant until his retirement in 1974. His military decorations included the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, Longevity Service Award with four bronze oak leaf clusters, and Good Conduct Medal with two bronze oak leaf clusters. A Connersville native, he was born February 10, 1937 to Walter and Jessie Lucas Murray and attended Connersville area schools. In 1954, he entered the U.S. Air Force where he served with the rank of Master Sergeant until his retirement in 1974. His military decorations included the Air Force Commendation Medal, the Meritorious Service Medal, Longevity Service Award with four bronze oak leaf clusters, and Good Conduct Medal with two bronze oak leaf clusters. He had been employed for 25 years as a purchasing agent at The Trane Company, Rushville, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of Eagles, Aerie #1065, Veterans of Foreign Wars, and American Legion, all of Connersville. He had a passion for having a beautiful yard and his home was his favorite place. He enjoyed spending time with his dog, Sam. Survivors include his wife, the former Lillie M. Norman, whom he married December 21, 1974 in Connersville. His children from previous marriages- Son Jeff R. Murray and his wife Diane of Denver, CO; three daughters: Kimberly A. Hoffman and her husband, Robert of Fairbanks, AK; Joanna Griego and her husband Randy of Mesa, AZ; and Allyson L. Murray of Laughlin, NV; Lillie's son Herbert; his step-mother: Louise of Richmond; 2 step-brothers: Bill Murray of Tennessee and Phil Murray of Boston, MA; eight grandchildren; several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents; a son: Christopher R. Murray, who died February 27, 1996; and his stepfather: Robert Ridge Funeral services will be conducted at 11:00 am Friday at Showalter Blackwell Long Funeral Home, Myers Chapel, Connersville with Rev. Troy Slagle of the Lighthouse Gospel Tabernacle, Metamora officiating. Interment will follow in Union Cemetery Garden of Memories, Fayette County with military graveside honors provided by the United States Air Force. Friends may visit at the funeral home from 4 to 8 pm Thursday where memorial contributions can be made to the American Lung Association.
