Description	:	Gene Rohlfs, 75, of Sioux City, formerly of Craig, Iowa passed away Monday, April 27, 2015 at Midlands Hospital in Papillion, Nebraska. Services will be 11:00 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 at the Carlsen Funeral Home of Le Mars with Reverend Sarah Nye of St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church of Craig officiating. Interment will follow at the St. John Lutheran Cemetery, Craig, Iowa. Visitation with the family present will be after 9:30 a.m. Friday, May 1, 2015 until service time at the funeral home. Pallbearers will be Tony Tysinger, Adam Rohlfs, Trent Rohlfs, Nick Kloke, Eric Kloke, and Darren Allen. Gene Ralph Rohlfs was born May 15, 1939 in Hawarden, Iowa to Fred and Lizzie (Popken) Rohlfs. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John’s Lutheran Church in Craig, Iowa. He attended school in Craig and later graduated from Le Mars Central High School in 1957. Gene worked for Cargill in Sioux City as a young man. He later worked for the Plymouth County Secondary Roads Department as an equipment operator living in Craig for over 20 years. For the last few years he worked at the Argosy Casino in Sioux City. He had been married to Roberta Hutton, they were blessed with five children: Bryan, Brenda, Bonnie, Kevin, and Linnae. Gene enjoyed playing softball in his younger years for teams in Craig. He also enjoyed watching baseball, playing cards, and dancing. Survivors include his five children: Bryan Rohlfs of Sioux City, Brenda Mauch and her friend Les Snyder of O’Neill, NE, Bonnie Steggerda and her husband Tim of Palillion, NE, Kevin Rohlfs of O’Neill, NE, and Linnae Kloke and her husband Chris of North Bend, NE; 13 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his siblings: Evelyn Dirks of Le Mars, Raymond Rohlfs and his wife Eileen of Le Mars, Leona Herzberg of Le Mars, Robert “Sam” Rohlfs of Rancho Cordova, CA, Richard “Pete” Rohlfs and his wife Lennice of Le Mars, and Joyce Borchers of Le Mars; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred and Lizzie (Popken) Rohlfs; siblings: Norman, Leo and Vernon in infancy; and in-laws: Robert Dirks, Elmer Herzberg, Katie Rohlfs, and Kenneth Borchers.
