Hansen, 76 (1932 – 2009) a lifetime resident of Hamilton County, died Tuesday, September 1, 2009, at his home in Aurora. Gene was born November 10th, 1932, the son of Chris and Edith Hansen, at the home place, 3 ½ miles north of Aurora. Gene and his wife, Arlene, found great satisfaction in caring for the land and livestock that occupied their lives for more than fifty-five years. Following two years at Dana College at Blair, Nebraska, where he met Arlene Houtwed of Ruskin, Nebraska Gene volunteered for the Army draft and spent 14 months in Korea during the Korean Conflict. After returning from Korea, Gene and Arlene were married in Ruskin, Nebraska on July 31, 1954. Travelling was always something Gene enjoyed and he and Arlene visited all 50 states and numerous foreign countries during their years together. The reality of God's claim on his life became very real to Gene as he passed midlife and he became a serious student of God's Word. For more than 50 years he taught Sunday school classes and served in various ministries in the local area. Nebraska Christian school board, Christian Resource Center, Praise Radio Ministries and Pleasant View Bible Church board where among some of his chosen areas of involvement. Survivors include his wife Arlene, one son Gary and his wife Anita of Aurora, two daughters Sandra Wentworth of Ellensburg, Washington, and Deborah and her husband Steve Mead of Aurora, one brother, Calvin Hansen, of Aurora, two sisters, Mrs. Elizabeth Hungerford of Portland, Oregon, and Mrs. Shirley Sorensen of Colorado Springs, Colorado. He is also survived by eight granddaughters whom he loved and greatly enjoyed. In his retirement years, countless hours were spent in his basement shop constructing toys of all descriptions for his granddaughters. Gene's love of the Lord and his affection for his family were the strong forces that gave meaning to his life. His prayer was that on the dash between the dates would be written "well done". Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Marjorie Doede.
