Online condolences may be directed to the family at www.armstrongfuneral.com. Genevieve Edna Moore was born on Aug. 18, 1920, in Walthill, Neb., the daughter of Omer and Dora (Ham) Bueoy. The family crossed the Missouri River on a ferry to come to Iowa. Having been first named Edna Genevieve, on their first embrace, her aunt lovingly called her little Genevieve Edna and thus changed her name for life. The family lived and farmed outside of Mapleton. Genevieve attended country school and completed her formal education at Smithland School. She then worked at home. On Dec. 6, 1939, Genevieve was united in marriage to Kenneth Moore in Monona County near Mapleton. To this union, five children were born, three girls and two boys. The family moved multiple times but with hard work, Genevieve was able to make each move turn into a home. They settled in Smithland in 1953. She worked at a restaurant there for a few years and later at Zenith Corporation in Sioux City. Kenneth passed away on Aug. 1, 1991. Genevieve was able to continue to live in their home on the corner of Main Street and Highway 141, where she loved to sit on the front porch watching traffic and the little details of activity in a small town. As her health became challenging, her daughter, Sharon, moved in to assist her in being able to live at home five more years. In May 2009, Genevieve became a resident at Maple Heights Nursing Home, where she continued to thrive due to the loving support of her family. Genevieve was a one of a kind good soul. She was not afraid of hard work and known for her excellent baking and cooking, especially her delicious fried chicken and pot roasts. When she made up her mind to do something, there was no stopping her no matter how tough the task might be. Always taking pride in her self appearance, Genevieve loved her jewelry primarily her rings, blinged bracelets, and watch. She faithfully sent each of her grandchildren a birthday card on time that held that signature dollar bill she always enclosed. They always knew too that grandma would carry gum and generously share it with them anytime. It was a solid fact that if you earned Genevieve’s friendship you had a friend that touched your heart forever. She was full of smiles, laughs, and a quick wit. This lady put her family above all and could not have been more proud of each of them. She cherished her family photos and proudly displayed them in her home. Those survivors left to cherish their many memories of Genevieve are her children, Shirley Adams and her husband, Roger of Cairo, Neb., Sharon Moore of Mapleton, Michael Moore and his wife, Debra of Des Moines, and Sandra Banta of Gentry, Ark.; one daughter-in-law, Wilma Moore of Smithland; 15 grandchildren; 38 great-grandchildren; 11 great-great-grandchildren and one on the way; four brothers and sisters, Rolland Bueoy of Maple Heights Nursing Home, Robert Bueoy of Onawa, Iowa, Evonne Farber of South Sioux City, and Barbara Bumsted of Mapleton; along with other extended family members and very good friends. Along with her husband, Kenneth Moore, she was preceded in death by her parents; a son, Randy Moore; a brother in infancy, Paul Bueoy; three sisters, Maureta Yockey, Helen Bumsted, and Marjorie Farber; a grandson, Kevin Banta; and two great-grandsons, Cody and Tanner Ray.
