Description	:	On March 2, 2015, Genevieve Bartlett Bever Barker, age 95, passed from her earthly existence to her eternal reward with several of her loving children at her side. Genevieve was the last of her generation and part of a family that made their home in Fort Madison and the surrounding area for over 140 years. Read More	On March 2, 2015, Genevieve Bartlett Bever Barker, age 95, passed from her earthly existence to her eternal reward with several of her loving children at her side. Genevieve was the last of her generation and part of a family that made their home in Fort Madison and the surrounding area for over 140 years. Gen or Genny, as she was most often called, was born on November 9, 1919 in Fort Madison; she was the last of ten children born to Richard and Bridget (Hellman) Bartlett. The Bartlett family can trace their lineage to the Mayflower of Plymouth, MA in 1620 and the Hellman family emigrated from Germany to America in the 1830s. Richard and Bridget Bartlett were among the charter members of Sacred Heart Church, Fort Madison and were married there in 1901. All ten of the Bartlett children and their families lived most of their lives within a ten block radius of their parent's home and the church. On July 9, 1940, Gen married Robert Morris Bever in Fort Madison, and they were the parents of nine children: Roger, Donald, Robert M. Jr., Joyce, Janet (twins), Richard, Patricia, Pamela (also twins), and Donna. The close proximity of the residences of the first generation was not carried to the next generation because Gen's children all went to college and spread out all over the country to pursue their careers. Gen's husband, Robert M. Bever died Feb 3, 1976, and in 1981 she married Francis Barker; Francis died in 1996. There was nothing more important in life to Gen than her Catholic faith and her family. She was proud of the strong relationship that she had with each of her children and also that they had with each other. Besides being predeceased by two husbands and her eldest son Roger who died in 2011, she also outlived her 5 brothers and 4 sisters and most of her lifelong friends. The count of her direct descendants is 9 children, 21 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. While Gen was a homemaker all her life, when the last of her children were nearly grown, she applied her skills in working for the Ft Madison school system lunch program. She enjoyed most sports and was an avid Iowa Hawkeye fan. She enjoyed dancing and playing cards throughout her life.
