Genevieve was born on January 11, 1916, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Archie Orlando and Elsie (Holmes) Wells. Genevieve was educated mostly in North Platte, Nebraska; Santa Ana, California; and Minden, Nebraska. She graduated from Minden (NE.) High School in 1935 and married her first husband, Keith Mathiasen, in Santa Barbara, California, on Oct. 26, 1936. Traut, died Friday, October, 4, 2013, at St. Luke's, Kearney, Nebraska where she had lived since March of 2013. Genevieve was born on January 11, 1916, in North Platte, Nebraska, to Archie Orlando and Elsie (Holmes) Wells. Genevieve was educated mostly in North Platte, Nebraska; Santa Ana, California; and Minden, Nebraska. She graduated from Minden (NE.) High School in 1935 and married her first husband, Keith Mathiasen, in Santa Barbara, California, on Oct. 26, 1936. To this marriage were born three children, Gary in June of 1938 and twins, David and Judy, in June of 1944... just two months after their father had been killed by an explosion at the Naval Ammunition Depot near Hastings, Nebraska. (April 6, 1944) On August 12, 1946, in Smith Center, Kansas, Genevieve married Phillip John Traut who lovingly took up the role of father to her three children. Phil died on July 17, 1997. Besides her husbands, Genevieve was proceeded in death by: parents; son, David Mathiasen; brother, Donald Wells and sister, LaRayne Baird. Genevieve leaves to mourn her passing: son, Gary Mathiasen and his wife Nancy of Benson, Arizona, and her daughter, Judy Kimball and her husband Ben of Kearney, Nebraska and Talihina, Oklahoma; grandchildren, Peggy Estes, Mike Mathiasen, Wendy Bowden, Gail Galloway, Troy Roller, Ben P. Kimball, Andy Kimball, and Trisha Johnson; 17 great-grandchildren, five nephews, a niece, and many dear friends, all who played a part in making her life worthwhile. Genevieve was devoted to her family, gently caring for them, loving them, nurturing them, guiding them in the things of God, and in general being their greatest cheerleader. She enjoyed baking...especially breads and pies...and was very skilled at embroidery. She loved reading and listening to Christian radio programs. All but the last of these joys had to be laid aside as her eyesight worsened. Genevieve was a devout Christian and spent much time in God's Word and in prayer. She was more than anxious to join her Savior and her loved ones in heaven, so we celebrate her life and her home-going. "To be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord." Interment was in Minden Cemetery, Minden, Nebraska.
