Description	:	Genevieve Jeanette Jensen was born August 23, 1939 on a farm near Turkey Ridge, South Dakota to Harold and Marian Jensen. Read More	Genevieve Jeanette Jensen was born August 23, 1939 on a farm near Turkey Ridge, South Dakota to Harold and Marian Jensen. Growing up with her little sister, Cleo, they both attended a little country school. Interestingly, mom said she never had a classmate until she attended high school in Centerville. When she graduated from 8th grade, she already knew she wanted to be a nurse. She attended Centerville High School and graduated in 1957. She always mentioned that was the best years to live, because all anyone ever wanted to do was just dance. And she loved to dance! When Gen was a senior in high school, she had the pleasure of getting to be a big sister again. Her little sister, Kathy Marie was born. After graduation, she lived out her dream of becoming a Registered Nurse and attended Sacred Heart Hospital in Yankton, SD. She said she worked very hard and graduated in three years with her RN degree. Three weeks after graduation, she married Harlan Brue on August 27, 1960. They moved around with the Telephone business for about six years, meanwhile adding to their family, their three kids, Scott, Dawn and Dean. They lived near Wisner, Nebraska until 1970 then moved to the family farm near Wakonda. After divorcing in 1975, Gen moved to Centerville to raise her kids, because she knew Centerville was a “good town” she said. On June 18, 1977 she married Duane Harmon. Gen worked at the Good Samaritan Center for most of her career, starting in 1975 to her retirement. Gen always LOVED taking care of the elderly folks. She said they had such wisdom and so many were so lonely and just wanted someone to love them. Gen was Director of Nursing in Centerville. She once told a doctor she was a geriatric nurse and he said, “YOU are or for your patients?” she laughed and never forgot that. She also worked in Yankton, Viborg and Wakonda. Gen loved her career and took pride in it. She and Duane had great fun, she said, in remodeling their house that she currently lives in. It was always a work in progress because she loved to decorate. They both just loved to go camping, even if they just hung out, they enjoyed just being together. They took many trips out to the Black Hills with Gen’s dad, Harold. They would also visit with Duane’s many relatives. Gen’s favorite hobby was sewing. She made two beautiful wedding gowns and many, many bridesmaids dresses. She enjoyed flowers, decorating for weddings and her flower gardens. I once counted 700 fern peonies and quit half way. Growing up she had the biggest vegetable gardens and spent many hours canning and freezing! She also had “Gen’s Carpet Crafts” where she painstakingly cut out small pieces of carpet and made wall murals. One I believe still hangs in a clinic in Yankton. More than anything, she adored her grandkids, Heather, Chase, Chris, Kelsey, Preston, Pierce, Palmer and Payden. Gen loved Christmas and looked so forward to a house full of fun and the memories that followed. In her retirement years she took wonderful care of Duane in his illness with cancer, seeing to it he was well taken care of. She loved to read and would a lot of times read a book a day! She also enjoyed her little companion, Mitzy. Gen was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary Club, Red Hats and Widows Club all of Centerville. Grateful for having such a wonderful mother, with such great memories are her children, Scott and Jasele Brue, Preston, Pierce, Palmer and Payden of rural Lennox; Dawn and Darwin Plucker of rural Lennox, Chase and Christy Plucker of rural Wentworth, SD, Chris Plucker of Raleigh, NC; and Dean Brue of rural Centerville, Kelsey Brue of Centerville and Heather Brue of Saulk Centre, MN; two sisters, Cleo and Kendall Johnson of Apple Valley, MN and Kathy Norman of Gitner, NE; plus several other relatives and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harold and Marian Jensen. Funeral services will be 10AM Tuesday, May 9, 2017 at the Centerville United Church of Christ.
